"Try out this machine and if it does not meet your satisfaction, you may return
it at our cost." "That's the pitch I received from the manufacturer of this
amazing machine," says David Spiel; "So I make the same offer to my customers
and not one has sent it back!"
THE STERLING® DIGIBINDER is the newest offering in the world of short run
perfect binding machines. "This little machine does the same job as many floor
model machines costing much more," says Saul Spiel. "I have never seen a better
table top machine of any kind."
ROUGHING AND NOTCHING
Most table top perfect binders, as well as some floor models, only notch the
book. The Digibinder roughs the entire backbone AND notches. Notching blades
are two small points that turn on a wheel and scrape the backbone of a book
block prior to gluing. This creates what looks like a barber pole on the spine
of the book block. The theory is that the glue will seep in better into these
spiral gouges in the spine. Full roughing does the same-- But to the entire
spine! "The notching on this machine is the cherry on top of the cake, not the
cake itself," declares Michael Spiel. "If you are just notching, you produce a
very weak bind." This unique roughing blade prepares the entire backbone while
producing next to no waste at all.
FULLY SELF ADJUSTING
The clamp and nipper on the STERLING DIGIBINDER are completely self adjusting.
"Just put in the book block and the machine does the rest, the clamp adjusts to
the thickness and so does the nipper, which squeezes the book around the
cover." David Spiel continues; "On other machines you have to either adjust
each component separately or press your hand against the clamp to ensure that
it is tight against the book block. Not so here. You can go from a 1/4" book to
1/2" to 3/4" without any adjustments at all!"
TWIN GLUE ROLLERS
Twin rollers are the best method of achieving even gluing on the spine. It is
usually normal on floor model machines and a real luxury on a table top. There
is a scraper included to meter the amount of glue applied to the spine of the
book.
MAXIMUM BOOK THICKNESS
We were impressed that the machine's specifications read up to 1.6 inches
thick. But it was wrong, declares Saul Spiel. We have bound 2 inch thick books
on the machine!" What more can you ask from a table top binder?
INTERNATIONAL SUCCESS
"The machine exceeded our expectations at DRUPA and we sold many more machines
than we could deliver. We were backordered for months," says Michael Spiel. We
sold machines in places we never sold before.
